ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer is accelerating the use of digital technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) across our entire enterprise.  The Pfizer Digital Intelligent Assistance Solution (IAS) Center develops, delivers and maintain the ML and NLP platforms, capabilities and solutions that enable Pfizer Business Units to extract insights out of unstructured data and interactions. 

IAS seeks a Senior Manager, Platform Optimization Specialist who will be responsible for supporting and optimizing our platforms, solutions and products for scale across the enterprise.  This position requires a blend of expertise across MLOps, DevOps, multi-cloud engineering, and process excellence.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Sr. Manager - IAS Platform Optimization Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Accountable for providing leadership, oversight and governance for all IAS portfolio assets deployed into production and ensuring effective operational and performance control of all solutions, products and platforms
  • Vendor management and oversight of service provider and their resources to ensure they are providing consistent and high level of service
  • Highest point of escalation in bringing to resolution incidents/problems/requests with performance levels
  • Drives to establish operational procedures and leads continuous improvement efforts to deliver optimal service levels
  • Integrate and collaborate with different technical teams across IAS Delivery, ML and AI Engineering, EP&S, to drive the use of DevOps methodologies, tools and processes
  • Ensure smooth and successful transition of projects from engineering/delivery into steady state
  • Establish SOPs and instrumentation to monitor and measure operational, financial and business KPIs
  • Monitor and measure cloud services utilization, performance, spend and optimize the use of cloud assets via continuous improvement cloud engineering efforts
  • Represent platform services across all new project delivery initiatives by providing input on scope, efforts, estimates, along with environment provisioning and deployment support. 
  • Manage and guide a team of colleagues and contractors along with the Portfolio of work effectively.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must be highly motivated and capable of working across a matrixed organization to resolve complex problems
  • MS/BS degrees in Computer Science/Engineering or requisite experience
  • 10+ years of infrastructure, platform, and web application operational support experience
  • 7+ years’ experience deploying and supporting cloud-based solutions (AWS strongly preferred)
  • 7+ years’ experience deploying and supporting micro services and REST APIs at scale
  • 7+ years’ vendor management experience operating in a onshore/offshore managed services model.
  • Strong experience in DevOps tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Github, Jenkins and other open-source tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of how AI solutions are architected such as Chatbots, Intelligent Search engines, Speech to Text, Language translation, suggestion and classification engines, vision analysis/classification.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods required to deploy ML/AI models and applications to production (MLFlow, Kubeflow, etc).
  • Strong working knowledge and experience using Python including understanding of the following frameworks/tools: Pyspark, Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch
  • Experience managing production services running on Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with database systems including one or more of the RDBMS (Redshift, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server 2012 &above).
  • Experience working in teams to address software defect analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution with high level of urgency
  • Proven ability in performance testing and optimization of developed source code for an enterprise business application.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with the software development team while driving software improvements.
  • Ability to prepare and present concepts and vision (written and verbal) to the software development team, senior management, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Candidate must be an excellent communicator and customer service driven
  • Ability to manage many parallel objectives and changing priorities.  Work well under ambiguous situations.

GENERAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Advisor/Consultancy: Provides well-informed advice, typically within a specific technical specialization, ensuring that it is properly understood and appropriately exploited, to enhance the effectiveness of significant activities.  Provides advice on technical aspects of Conversational UI and ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly.

Technical Acumen: Maintains knowledge of specific technologies provides detailed advice regarding their application, executes specialized tasks. 

Thought Leadership & Advocacy: Develop awareness of industry developments and best practices Provide thought leadership in emerging technologies as they relate to AI and Conversational UI

Presentation Skills: Ability to develop visually simple and appealing PowerPoint presentations and be comfortable with articulating and communicating with the right authority and messaging to a broad range of stakeholders
