Job Description

Summary

The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable Medical Assistant II to be a part of the Gastroenterology group to support our clinicians providing services to patients. The candidate will have primarily MAII responsibilities (performing routine patient care i.e. rooming/vitals) and limited procedure scheduling for General GI providers. This position will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. The main responsibilities include interviewing patient, measuring vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height), recording information on the patient electronic chart using EPIC and working desktop messages for incoming calls/questions from patients. Shifts will be 8:00am-5:00pm  Monday-Friday, with an hour lunch break.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities ex. rooming and vital signs
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for visit 
  • Collects patient histories and enter medications into medical record 
  • Maintains patient and services rooms in a neat and orderly condition. 
  •  Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scan patient medical records; obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed. 
  • Schedules & preps colonoscopy/EGD for when patient is in clinic for specific provider assigned
  • Reviews patients’ medications list and identify any medications which require attention or medications need to be stopped before procedure
  • Refills medications and performs prior authorizations per GI protocol
  • Contacts and responds to patients via MyChart and/or telephone
  • Utilizes Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams to communicate with physicians and staff

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient in MS applications in computers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent patient/customer service skills with the ability to problem-solve and de-escalate situations as needed.
