Job Description
Summary
The laboratory of Dr. Mingshan Xue (https://www.bcm.edu/research/labs/mingshan-xue) in the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI) is seeking applicants for a research technician position. The technician will work in a multi-disciplinary team to use mouse models of neurodevelopmental disorders to develop gene therapies. Applicants should submit a cover letter stating research experience and interest, a CV, a copy of transcripts, and a list of referees.
Job Duties
- Performs mouse handling, husbandry, and PCR genotyping.
- Works on Immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy that includes animal perfusion, tissue fixation, sectioning, immunostaining, and confocal fluorescence imaging of stained sections.
- Performs mouse behavioral tests that includes a battery of neurological tests and general health monitoring.
- Assists with ongoing experimental work that includes autoclave, solution preparation, and ordering.
- Performs additional tasks such as plasmid preparation, molecular cloning, qPCR, and Western blotting.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in biology experiments.
- Detail-oriented and interested in conducting independent research.
