ATTENTION:
The University of Wisconsin System is one of the largest systems of public higher education in the country and employs more than 39,000 faculty and staff statewide. The UW System is composed of 13 four-year universities with 13 two-year branch campuses affiliated with seven of the four-year institutions. Two of the universities (UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee) are doctoral degree-granting institutions and 11 are master’s degree–granting comprehensive institutions. The UW System is governed by a single Board of Regents (Board) comprising 18 members. The UW System head is the President of the System. Together, UW System institutions are a tremendous academic, cultural, and economic resource for Wisconsin, the nation, and the world.

The Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC) assists in communicating the President’s vision for the University of Wisconsin System, serves as a primary point of contact for news reporters, manages the UW System’s Web presence and digital content, and produces a variety of print and online publications to serve both internal and external audiences.

We promote a common structure and consistent approach to communications and external relations to facilitate a positive association with the University of Wisconsin System identity and brand as well as an overall vision for the UW System. We do this through media relations. Strategic communications, digital media, graphic design, web governance and web content management tools, training, and distribution platform administration.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position will work with the Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC), as well as with the Office of Learning and Information Technology (OLITS), UW System Administration (UWSA) website managers and editors, and other programs as deemed necessary. Position responsibilities include website training and user administration; maintaining and enforcing UWSA website policies; helping ensure OPAC website content is current as well as ensuring that all content on the UW System public website and the UWSA intranet is current and continually managed.

This position also supports broad website goals to manage and coordinate the content between various UW System websites to ensure that the content aligns with the UW System’s mission and values; and continually improve UWSA digital content via analytics. This position reports to UWSA’s Internal Communications Manager (OPAC) under the direction of the OPAC Creative Team Lead. Specific duties will include the following:



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Website Administration & Maintenance

Assist with web administration of the UWSA website with web editors and publishers.
Ensure website content is current and programs properly maintain their webpages.
Help ensure OPAC website content is current.
Other administration and maintenance tasks as needed.
Training, Facilitation, and Outreach

Train Content Management System (Wordpress) editors and administer user permissions.
Help write and maintain user guides for editors about Wordpress features.
Respond to editors/user questions and assist with content coordination where needed.
Promote user-centered, accessible practices, monitor, and communicate legal issues when they arise.
Communicate website information architecture to ensure structure and style/brand is followed.
Build and maintain relationships with website managers and editors.
Gather and coordinate new project intake by consulting with stakeholders, investigating user needs, and assessing current interfaces.
Collaborate with technologists and website designer to facilitate the creation of new Wordpress features.
Help plan projects, manage timelines, and communicate with partners throughout the life cycle of projects.
Web Analytics

Set up and train Wordpress editors on currently used web analytic tools.
Review web analytics to understand user behavior and help website managers identify opportunities for improvement.
Synthesize research results, develop recommendations, and advocate for users based on quantitative and/or qualitative evidence.
Develop personas, use cases, user stories, and journeys to support the design and development process.
Promote ongoing user research and usability testing to continuously seek feedback from users.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

Associates degree
A minimum of four years of experience in user research, user experience design, content strategy, and/or user interface design.
Experience with Google Analytics, SEO, HTML/CSS, web content management systems.
Ability to understand the technical underpinnings of websites and applications (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, frameworks, databases) and to collaborate effectively with technologists.
Experience with collaborative, iterative design, and development.
Experience with creating a variety of user experience or service design deliverables (e.g., information architecture, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, service blueprints, content strategies, and project documentation).
Experience working with complex user needs and organizational requirements in team environments, as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously with different deadlines and a diverse set of stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Well-qualified candidates will also have:

Bachelor’s degree
Experience with WordPress content management System.
Experience working as a team lead on web-related projects involving both content and technical issues with staff involved in web, communications, and information technology.
Experience working with diverse populations in higher education (students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, donors, etc.).

The office location is 1764 Van Hise Hall, 1220 Linden Drive, Madison, WI 53706. Telecommuting or hybrid work options (combination of remote work and in-office) may be available to Wisconsin residents only. Telecommuting agreements are subject to change at any time.
