South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a creative and innovative Research Associate I. The person in this position will aid research efforts by managing lab activities and records and by applying a range of technologies including cutting-edge CRIPSR whole genome screening microscopy and flow cytometry to study the molecular pathways governing antibody therapeutics and target cell killing by macrophages. In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will be expected to author papers, create figures, train and work with students, manage laboratory inventory, and enforce safety practices. Individuals with the drive to develop and apply the skills necessary are ideal candidates for this position and training opportunities will be provided.

This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by Professor Adam Hoppe, in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at SDSU.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct high-level molecular biology experiments, including CRISPR whole-genome screens, RNAseq studies and functional analysis.
Use flow cytometry and high content microscopy to conduct functional cellular assays.
Harvest tissue and immune cells from transgeneic mice for experiments.
Help the PI manage lab record keeping, inventory and training of students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Genetics, or related discipline completed by first day of employment.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Computer literacy.
Demonstrated laboratory skills including experience with molecular biology, cell culture and biochemistry.
Ability to work as a contributing team member.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a closely related field.
Experience with cell biology and bioinformatics.
Previous experience with molecular biology, including construct design, CRISPR gene editing, PCR and related technologies.
Demonstrated experience with next generation sequencing methods, flow cytometry and fluorescence and luminescence technologies.
Experience in publishing in peer reviewed journals.
