Job Overview
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati is seeking applications for a Jr. Research Associate. The position is for one year, starting August 2022, but the hiring period could be extended for an additional year. This position will assist in the laboratory inventory and organization, routine maintenance of parasite and mammalian cell cultures in a biosafety level 2 facility, will engage in rigorous laboratory activity, performing growth curves, differentiation assays, host cell infections, preparation of media and common laboratory solutions, experiments involving molecular biology skills for the generation and characterization of trypanosome mutant cell lines. This will include, but is not limited to, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, gene cloning, western blot and fluorescence microscopy. This person will interact closely with graduate students and help with the training and supervision of undergraduates in lab techniques. Essential Functions
Assist with the coordination of laboratory projects or research studies in a particular discipline.
Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience.
Summarize test results; respond to concrete project/study questions specifically related to the work performed.
Assist with or may work independently on whole projects/problems.
Contribute effectively to the collective team effort.
Analyze research results.
Organize data search and analysis procedures.
Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
Assist in the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
Accomplish assigned results for project/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree.
Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
Experience in related field, process or discipline.

Additional Qualifications Considered
Previous experience with cell culture and molecular biology.
Ability to coordinate multiple activities, including experiments along with maintenance of cell cultures.
