Job Description

The Director of Nursing (DON) serves as the chief nursing administrator for the CSN Department of Nursing leading the Nursing Assistant, Practical Nursing, Associate degree, and Bachelor’s degree Nursing Programs. The person in this position is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the department to include personnel and student management, external site liaison, and budget oversight. The position also includes primary oversight for faculty development and mentoring, curriculum development, strategic planning to accomplish assigned goals of the Nursing Department; assuring adherence with the Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN) regulations, and accreditation standards of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), as well as programmatic evaluation and assessment, faculty evaluation and workload generation, and the evaluation of administrative assistants. The DON builds professional relationships with local healthcare workforce representatives to promote CSN’s nursing programs and to identify potential practicum experiences. The DON is responsible for fiscal development, department budget oversight, supervision of CSN nursing facilities, equipment, and other resources. The DON is also the main contact with other department and school faculty and administrators.

This position is responsible for the Nursing Assistant, Practical Nursing, Associate degree Nursing and the Bachelor’s degree Nursing Programs:

Nursing Assistant: Approx. 500 annual student enrollments (6 FT faculty).
Practical Nursing: Approximately 32 annual student enrollments (4 FT faculty).
Associate degree Nursing: Approximately 400 annual student enrollments (30).
Bachelor’s degree Nursing: Approximately: (5 annual students w expansion possible).
Supervisory responsibility for four classified staff, one Professional Staff (Nursing Clinical Coordinator), and five 1000-hour Lab assistants.
Also responsible for numerous revenue accounts to include lab fees, differential fees, testing fees, gift accounts, etc.
Physical Demands: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Requires frequent, sometimes prolonged work on a personal computer/laptop.



Additional Physical Demands (if applicable): Maintain consistent and reliable attendance. This position requires travel to and from other campuses and work-related locales and as necessary requires after hours and/or weekend work to provide services/work products to students, clients, staff, and those in the supervisory chain of command.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited College/University.
Doctorate degree in Nursing or a related field from a regionally accredited College/University.
Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada (professional license) at the time of employment at CSN.
CPR basic life support certification.
3 years of supervisory experience as a nursing administrator.
Preferred Qualifications

5 years of experience as a registered nurse.
Experience working in a higher education institution.
Experience managing budgets.
Demonstrated knowledge of the ACEN accreditation standards.
