What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a postdoctoral appointee to design and model novel accelerators for neural networks and other algorithms. Our team is developing computing accelerators based on analog in-memory computing with emerging non-volatile memory devices, including novel memory devices being developed at Sandia. Your work will involve designing and modeling analog circuit blocks, memory array peripheral circuits, reconfigurable digital circuits, and integration of the memory, analog, and digital blocks into an accelerator system. The designs will be included in analog accelerator hardware prototypes that will be fabricated at Sandia’s MESA facility. Your work may additionally involve modeling to evaluate how the physical properties of memory devices and circuits impact the accuracy of algorithms deployed on the accelerator. This will involve developing, extending, and experimentally validating Sandia’s multi-scale simulation tools for analog accelerators. You will also have the opportunity to develop and improve novel algorithms, including neural network and machine learning algorithms, to solve mission-relevant problems. These algorithms will need to be carefully tailored to map both accurately and energy-efficiently to the novel analog hardware deployed in mission-relevant environments. On any given day, one may be called upon to: + Design analog and digital circuit blocks for hardware prototypes. + Develop simulation tools to model and evaluate new devices, circuits, and/or architectures. + Develop hardware constrained neural networks for a variety of applications. + Conduct innovative research, publish and present results in refereed journals and conferences. + Develop and pursue new opportunities in areas that support Sandia Mission activities. + Work in multidisciplinary teams. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time. Qualifications We Require: + PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related area, conferred within 5 years prior to employment + A record of publication and innovation, as evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, technical books or issued patents + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Ability to work in a collaborative research environment on problems in a variety of domains + Proficiency in solving problems, prioritizing work, and making decisions + Excellent written and oral communication skills + Expertise in modeling devices, circuits, or in-memory computing architectures + Proficiency in circuit design and design tools/workflows + Experience in ASIC and VLSI design + Proficiency with programming languages including python or C++ + Experience developing and delivering new software/simulation tools + Experience programming for or developing compilers for heterogenous systems About Our Team: Responsible for developing, integrating, characterizing, and ensuring the reliability of radiation-hardened microelectronics fabricated in the Microsystems and Engineering Sciences Applications (MESA) facilities.
