Position Summary:
The Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE) is searching for an extension agent to serve the beautiful Kenai Peninsula district in the area of Health, Home and Family Development. This dynamic faculty position will focus on supporting the needs of families and communities by offering education and outreach on wide-ranging topics such as food preservation, family development, emergency preparedness and healthy lifestyles. By working directly with the public, this person will identify the needs of individuals and communities and address them by extending relevant research-based knowledge in an understandable and usable form. In addition to serving as a generalist on a wide range of topics, a successful candidate will be prepared to serve as a statewide subject matter expert in one or more areas including, but not limited to: consumer science, family development, child development or family studies. The UAF Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension houses the Cooperative Extension Service and the Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. Both units are part of the land-grant mission at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. UAF's Extension is part of the largest informal education system in the world, connecting Extension programs at land-grant colleges and universities in every U.S. territory and state.
Serve as a district extension agent for the Kenai Peninsula district focusing on the area of Health, Home and Family Development. Identify and respond to a wide range of local needs as they relate to a diverse set of topics that fall under Health, Home and Family Development. Historically, this has included teaching and outreach on topics such as: food preservation, emergency preparedness, gardening, food safety, healthy lifestyles, family development, home finances, nutrition and healthy homes. Support statewide Extension efforts by serving as a subject matter expert in one or more subject areas including, but not limited to: consumer science, family development, early childhood development, human lifespan development, family studies, social work, healthy families or interpersonal studies. Design appropriate educational strategies to engage a diverse audience. These strategies may include face-to-face education in a community-based setting, coordinating events with partner organizations, using innovative technologies, including online delivery methods, and providing individual consultation via phone, video conference, and email. Develop or adapt outreach and educational strategies to expand the reach of Extension programming to underserved audiences. Develop, implement and evaluate programs for adults and youth. Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming. Manage budgets, personnel, and volunteer

Ability to clearly communicate on a wide range of potentially complex topics with a wide range of audiences including children.
Ability to develop curricula for, and deliver, educational sessions both online and in person
Ability to communicate clearly in writing for readers of different abilities (academic audiences, general public, ESL audiences, children, etc.)
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
Facility in various technology platforms for the creation and dissemination of educational webinars, online classes, and educational video productions
Leadership skills as evidenced by working with individuals, groups and co-workers
Ability to design, promote, implement and evaluate educational programs
Knowledge of adult and youth teaching/learning processes

Demonstrated ability to work with community leaders, partners, diverse agencies, and individuals of varied backgrounds.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media
Experience working with adults and youth from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
Experience in seeking and administering external grant funding
Working with diverse, low-income and underserved individuals

Master’s degree in field related to Health, Home and Family Development.
Degrees could include, but are not limited to: family and consumer sciences, public health, nutrition, food sciences, social work, mental health, psychology, finance, business, human development, family studies and health and wellness.
A driver’s license and personal transportation is required for this position. Routine travel, including air travel and road travel, is a requirement of this position.
