The Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics at SBP is the world’s leading academic drug discovery and development organization, an epicenter for innovative approaches to accelerate the discovery of new drugs to help save lives and treat disease. This is an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to a broad spectrum of drug discovery projects with the end goal of ultimately benefiting patients. Our portfolio includes cancer, neurodegeneration, and cardiovascular metabolic disease targets, among others. We are passionate about collaboration and work extensively with lead researchers and key opinion leaders from academia and industry. The successful candidate will join a team involved in diverse applied research activities and will work side-by-side with experienced scientists on projects in small molecule drug discovery.

Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated hands-on experience in HTS technology, automation and advanced laboratory equipment, such as acoustic compound transferring and robotic screening systems. More importantly, they will have the demonstrated ability to perform detailed-oriented tasks with precision. We seek a candidate with a meticulous laboratory approach, careful adherence to protocols and excellent documentation skills. The ability to learn and implement new instrumentation, techniques and skills is essential. Our preferred candidate will possess a high level of self-motivation, together with the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, and troubleshoot problems as they arise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the execution of all High Throughput Screening projects using a variety of screening modalities, including biochemical assays, cell-based assays and high content screening for the Center and the institute, including supporting preliminary stages of optimization, miniaturization, and implementation.
  • Assists with the maintenance and operation of automation screen systems and laboratory instruments within the Prebys Center
  • Performs a variety of laboratory tasks, including preparing samples, accurately analyzing data using state-of-the-art software (e.g. CBIS, Prism), and providing basic data interpretations
  • Processes new compounds into the archive inventory and accurately weighs and dissolves samples
  • Performs routine tasks such as labeling, compound plate inventory
  • Provides support of new equipment and technology to research scientists.
  • Provides guidelines to new laboratory personnel on instrument/automation operations and standard operation procedures.

Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a biological science, chemistry, physics or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained; or Master’s degree in a biological science, chemistry, physics or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • 1 year of directly related experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with HTS assays preferred
  • Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting and mammalian cell culture skills are a plus.
  • Proof of fully COVID-19 vaccination

  • Proficiency with PC Operating Platforms and Microsoft Office
