The Applied Materials Division (AMD) at Argonne National Laboratory conducts applied research to develop sustainable innovative technologies to improve the efficiency of resource and energy utilization; to minimize our dependence on imported energy; and to enhance our national security.
We are looking for an expert in battery critical material supply chains to lead our effort in its domestic advancement. The candidate should be very familiar with lithium, cobalt, nickel, and other critical material pathways including mining, refining and the manufacturing of battery materials such as cathode and anode. The successful candidate will lead a program that includes both low and high TRL projects including bench through pilot scale, as well as projects in modeling, characterization, and using AI/ML tools. This leader must have the capability to shape a broad supply chain program managing work at the lab while also managing relations with DOE. The candidate should be able to put together a vision and carry out through its success. Our ultimate goal is to aid US industry in establishing leadership in the domestic supply chain so this person will need to work closely with industry.
Advanced technical degree in a relevant field, and 10+ years work experience or equivalent
A strong background in battery supply chain processing technologies
Skills in program development, direction and execution.
Skills in developing and maintaining effective relationships with a diverse set of programmatic sponsors, influencing future directions and pursuing funding opportunities.
Oral and written communication and interpersonal relationship building skills.
Knowledge of the Laboratory’s organizational structure and funding sources.
Knowledge of Laboratory and DOE policies and procedures.
