Job Description
Interventional Radiology Specialty Integration Program for Registered Nurses
Moffitt is excited to announce the implementation of a structured didactic and clinical specialty integration program for experienced RN’s who desire to gain skill and knowledge in a new practice environment in Interventional Radiology.
The Moffitt Interventional Radiology (IR) department is a complex procedural area that requires highly skilled and knowledgeable Registered Nurses (RN) to support over 100 different types of procedures and moderate sedation. This hybrid clinical setting requires knowledge and skills of both perioperative and radiology nursing. The IR Specialty Integration Program will prepare the experienced RN with the skills and knowledge to work in this department.
- IR RN candidate requirements:
- Experienced Registered Nurses (12 months or more acute care setting).
- Preference for RNs with critical care, OR, procedural area experience.
- ACLS (or completion within 90 days)
- Sign 1 year commitment letter
- Course work:
- 10 week program
- Didactic
- Core curriculum for Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nurses (ARIN) and Association of perioperative Nurses (AORN)
- Expert RN and MD educational presentations
- Professional nursing journals, guidelines and standards of care
- Oncology specific content as appropriate
- Case studies
- Clinical
- Preceptor with planned weekly clinical experiences
- Simulation labs with return competency demonstration for high risk clinical situations (e.g. Rapid transfusion, Malignant hyperthermia, Code Blue)
- Professional nursing practice
- Evidence-based practice
- Scope of practice
- CROC hunt – identify an area of improvement or change that could improve patient care and/or nurse practice environment
- Pre/post internship self-assessment of competency and skills
- Planned daily and weekly debriefs with RN intern, manager, CNS and preceptor to assess progress, identify educational and/or clinical skills for focus or additional training, encourage and support.
