The High Energy Physics Division at the Argonne National Laboratory has a postdoctoral opening in the Intensity Frontier Group, focusing on experimental neutrino physics. The Division performs cutting-edge research facilitated through advanced detector development, high-performance supercomputing (HPC), and innovative electronic and mechanical engineering units. Our group has recognized roles within the DUNE experimental program centered at Fermilab and has been recognized for significant achievements in several recent neutrino experiments.
The successful candidate will:
(1) Focus on the cross-section measurements based on existing experimental data from Fermilab experiments. Publish results and add new information to benchmark the GENIE neutrino event generator and compare to other neutrino interaction models.
(2) Simulate, commission detector components, and analyze data from DUNE near detector prototypes to enhance understanding of neutrino interactions.
Applicants must have recently received a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
Considerable skills to develop and interpret physics and background simulations, to perform measurements and to interpreting the data
Ability to use programming languages for data analysis or for modeling system performance
Demonstration of problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to produce scientific reports and to present ideas and proposals to scientists and engineers
Experience with detector systems and/or electronics is desirable
Enjoys working in teams, including the ability to interact well with external collaborators, while operating in a transparent & friendly work environment
Respects, understands, and values individual differences
Works safely and within all environment, safety, and health regulations
