Job Description


This is a key supporting role for the VP of Global Health (GH) that will facilitate and support the research vision and strategy of Global Health. This person will assist VP of GH in implementing new technology and devices into developing nations globally and will also support research efforts in our programmatic focus areas.

This position requires work to be done in person and on site.

Job Duties

  • Assists clinicians to implement research instruments in the field, instrument protocol development, collects qualitative and quantitative data, data analysis, disseminates research results.  
  • Writes and administers research surveys in the field.  
  • Assists Vice President of Global Health on patent paperwork and works with Licensing to disclose patents. 
  • Researches federal and non-federal grant opportunities create submission plans and checklists, communicates to investigators and their teams, oversees submission of grants into BRAIN. 
  • Assist Vice President, Global Scholars, and collaborating faculty on researching grant opportunities, writing grants, and writing scientific publications.  
  • Mentors and oversees research student volunteers, SMART students, and interns.
  • Leads the Global Health Research & Innovation meetings - communicates with faculty on presentations, actively seeks out presentation material and opportunities within BCM and with external collaborators, creates the agenda, acts as a moderator and manages the participant list.  
  • Supports the GH Scholar program by actively engaging scholars, searching for new potential scholars, looking for ways to bring faculty research into GH programs, and assisting them with research activities.

Specific Tasks

  • Grant research, writing and oversee submission (is not PI)  
  • Assist VP on writing publications, writing patents, and submitting patent disclosures  
  • Lead Research & Innovation meetings - create agenda, manage participant list, act as moderator. 
  • Regularly communicates with Global Health Scholars - email, Zoom, in-person meetings and assist Scholars with grant submissions and publications. 
  • Attends and presents at research conferences 
  • Manages research student volunteers. 
  • Creates, implements, collects, and analyzes data for research surveys  
  • Acts as project manager for global projects - develops plans, creates timelines, gathers information/data, research compliance regulations, coordinates meetings with collaborators, tracks performance and deliverables, keeps Administrator and collaborators up to date on progress, alerts Administrator on any issues that might affect budgets and/or timeline

Supervisor Duties

  • This position will not have direct reports at this time but will manage, direct and mentor research interns and volunteer students who are working towards their undergraduate, master, and medical degrees. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must understand research practices such as, publication authorship, how to coordinate multi-institutional grants and be able to understand grant governance 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (e.g., biomedical, engineering)
  • Master’s degree or PhD in engineering, public health, business administration
  • Work experience in developing nations (e.g., Africa, Central & South America)
