Job Summary/Basic Function:
Support and troubleshoot existing and new Building Automation System (BAS) software and hardware across campus that interfaces with our HVAC systems. Individuals will be responsible to review how our buildings are operating and determine what points and sequences may need adjusted to ensure optimal operation of our HVAC systems to minimize energy use and maximize occupant comfort. Provide tactical support for our HVAC team to help them troubleshoot and fix issues that are discovered in regards to HVAC equipment. Coordinate efforts when necessary with the department of OIT due to campus wide system integration with the campus network. Establish and ensure compliance with university design standards for Building Automation Systems. Position is responsible for departmental data integrity and systems security and will serve as a liaison with OIT, other campus entities and vendors. Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:
The Building Automation Systems Administrator must:
● Provide technical support for all buildings using BAS software to optimize the operation of HVAC systems. Ensure integrity of data integration between department systems modules.
● Work with OIT to manage access to the BAS servers by request
● Work with personnel to install/manage and troubleshoot BAS client applications
● Test and verify operating system upgrades for optimal response.
● Troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
● Work with BAS vendors to assist with software updates and upgrades and assist with maintaining licenses and contracts on all department software.
● Review building settings and ensure all buildings operating a BAS are functioning appropriately
● Understand reporting needs on campus and identify the tools available for delivering that information. Provide analysis, expertise and recommendations regarding the use of available reporting tools.
● Provide project management for implementation of new functionality and for process improvement projects.
● Develop, maintain, and enforce campus standards for Building Automation Systems. Review design drawings and construction submittals for compliance with campus standards.
● Support the commissioning of new BAS installations and the re-commissioning / retro-commissioning of existing BAS installations.
● Responds (on-site or remotely as needed) to after-hours BAS issues.
● Define metrics to assess the effectiveness of daily operations and for new procedures to identify where changes to existing reporting are required.
● Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, on all aspects of projects.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Understanding of Development/Test environment of Building Automation System software
● Knowledge of HVAC systems and operations
● Expert-level knowledge system architecture and programming best practices.
● Maintain system applications by installing patches and performing timely upgrades.
● Knowledge of relational database systems and SQL tools. Knowledge of the relationship between databases and other software and the interfaces necessary to facilitate a cohesive system.
● Knowledge of and/or experience in document creation, management and imaging.
● Knowledge of current technology and practices, including application and network security.
● Knowledge and experience with personal computer hardware.
● Good communication skills (oral and written) and good interpersonal and organizational skills.
● Good time management skills, with the ability to take ownership and complete assigned tasks.
● Detail oriented, with good problem solving skills and with the ability to anticipate and provide solutions that result in gained efficiencies in business processes and improved customer service.
