Primary Purpose of the Position:
This position is part of the team that manages a wide array of systems, which include both physical and virtual servers utilizing various operating systems, in addition to a cloud environment. Responsibilities include but not limited to: set-up and deployment of physical and virtual servers; patching and maintaining servers and systems, imaging servers, monitoring servers, and other mission critical systems, as well as documentation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Monitor, maintain and administer campus email environment. Duties include but are not limited to creating new employee, student and utility accounts and ensuring appropriate services and access is assigned to user accounts. Troubleshoot user client issues as well.
Administer campus Linux servers
Monitor, maintain and administer campus IDP services
Support ancillary applications in installation, maintenance and administration as appropriate.
Applying vendor released patches to servers and applications.
Troubleshoot and resolve non-routine server and application software issues, which might require reconfiguration, reloading and/or upgrading, research and/or escalation to vendor support, as well as collaboration with other team members.
Ensuring system security compliancy by working with Security Specialist and team members in implementing industry standards making sure that application and configuration is performed appropriately as well as integrates with existing technology on campus.
System analysis to continually improve processes, workflows and capacity in the environment based on industry best practices. Provide feedback to supervisor and team members about installed software/hardware and make suggestions to improve customer experience and performance.
Test new operating systems, service packs to existing software and operating systems, as well as new applications and report problems and issues to team members and supervisor.
Conduct research and performance testing on new software, OS patches and/or products being considered for purchase.
Setup, install, monitor, and manage servers, systems and applications, including operating system and other required software
Utilize IT security standards to remove and decommission old systems equipment for surplus.
Assist w/ administration of the campus Managed Print System and troubleshooting the connected devices.
Employees are required to adjust their standard work schedule to meet the requirements of their position, which includes and not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
Other duties and tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
Duties include on-call responsibilities during non-business hours including evenings and weekends to respond to technical support issues.
Follow up on escalated issues to ensure resolution.
Fully document all tools and applications.
Manage projects or project tasks as assigned by management.
Develop a test plan and fully test tools and applications.
Develop an implementation plan for tools and applications.
Ability to write scripts for automation of routine tasks
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in systems software programming; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Four year degree with a major in information technology, computer science or closely related field and four years’ experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related field or an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
