Job Description


A Research Technician II position is available in the Advanced Technology Core for Macromolecular X-ray crystallography at Baylor College of Medicine. The Research Technician will assist with the crystallization screening and crystal optimization of proteins and protein complexes for structure analysis. Successful applicants must possess quantitative reasoning and excellent communication skills. No prior experience with protein crystallization is required.

Job Duties


  • Maintains general lab environment (i.e., organization and cleanliness of the lab).
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with biosafety regulations.
  • Assists with crystallization screening setups using a liquid handling robot.
  • Assists with imaging and recording of crystallization screening results.
  • Prepares biological buffers and chemical stock solutions.
  • Performs experiments in protein biochemistry.
  • Prepares figures and assists in writing reports related to experiments performed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Bachelor's with 2 years of related lab experience.
  • Prior experience with protein purification or biochemistry techniques.
  • Ability to keep accurate records of work performed.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic: ability to prioritize tasks, use good judgment, and complete duties.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques.
