Job Description

Summary

The Research Technician will work on projects that use GIS analysis and laboratory techniques to investigate vector-borne disease. Specifically, they will select and process imagery, conduct geospatial analysis, and manage large databases. In the laboratory they will conduct molecular assays including DNA/RNA extraction, real time PCR, and sequencing to identify pathogens of human importance in field collected vectors.

Job Duties

  • Conducts DNA/RNA extraction from field collected vectors.
  • Conducts real time PCR analysis for pathogens of human importance.
  • Conducts metagenome sequencing from vector samples.
  • Identifies suitable imagery for analysis.
  • Derives imagery based indices using GIS software.
  • Organizes, cleans, and quality control of databases.
  • Works with local vector control division to obtain data for analysis.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments and GIS analysis.
  • Orders and maintains laboratory supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
