Job Description

Summary

The Binoy Shivanna Lab at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant II. The Research Assistant II should be a team player with excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills. The candidate should be familiar and proficient with state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques pertinent to the field of lung research.

Job Duties

  • Maintains up-to-date records of all the experimental details.
  • Maintains mouse colonies and perform genotyping studies.
  • Designs and performs in vivo experiments with neonatal mice and in vitro experiments with human lung cells.
  • Injects neonatal mice with chemicals/drugs/agents by the intraperitoneal route.
  • Harvests lung tissues from neonatal mice for pathology, gene and protein expression and other mechanistic studies.
  • Performs real-time RT-PCR and immunoblotting studies.
  • Extracts and cultures lung cells from neonatal mice.
  • Obtains and analyzes data from the experiments and help the research team prepare manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Assigns research projects to research staff.
  • Supervises research staff on assigned projects. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field. 
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a related field.
