Any concerns about the ability to meet this requirement should be directed to HR Solutions at (505) 284-4700. : We are looking for a hard-working Postdoctoral Appointee to pursue research in semiconductor quantum systems with applications in quantum information science. The research will involve the characterization and operation of spin qubits in silicon and related materials using both standard and novel device designs.On any given day, you may be called upon to: + Characterize and operate semiconductor-based quantum devices and qubits at dilution refrigerator temperatures. + Design hardware for delivering control signals to device under test + Design and implement experiments aimed at probing specific physical phenomena relevant to semiconductor quantum dots and qubits + Design and fabricate nanoscale quantum devices + Collaborate with a diverse team, including experimentalists and theorists, with experience in quantum information science
+ Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or related field and have a bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
+ Ability to quickly learn new experimental techniques + Experience making effective technical presentations + Proven interpersonal and communication skills + Experience operating semiconductor quantum systems + Experience with cryogenic measurement techniques, including dilution refrigerator operation + Experience working with quantum-based devices in an experimental setting + Experience with low noise and RF measurement techniques + Knowledge of the basic procedures commonly used in nanoscale device fabrication + Scientific programming for efficient data collection + Ability to collaborate in a team and interested in interdisciplinary research. + Independent vision, creativity, and ability to pursue and achieve R&D landmarks
The Quantum Phenomena Department (01879) is part of the Material, Physical, Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories which creates new scientific knowledge in support of Sandia's national security mission. We provide science-based solutions to meet the needs of various offices within the Department of Energy (especially the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, various Energy Technology Offices, and the National Nuclear Security Administration) as well as other government agencies. Our work spans the spectrum from fundamental research to innovative applications. This department has a very broad range of research programs that include theory and experiment relating to quantum-based computation, communication, and fundamental science. Research topics in this department include quantum transport, quantum materials, quantum optics, as well as work on superconducting materials and devices. We also have ongoing work on the physics of quantum dots, quantum wells, topological insulators, and 2D materials and interfaces.
