Job Description


A full-time research technician III position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jeremy Wilusz, located in the Verna and Marrs McLean Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Therapeutic Innovation Center (THINC), a center of excellence at BCM that seeks to discover fundamental mechanisms of gene control and to translate these discoveries into early therapeutic development. Our multi-disciplinary group aims to reveal new modes of gene regulation, especially novel mechanisms that regulate circular RNAs, RNA stability, pre-mRNA splicing, transcription, or translation. We are looking for a motivated, hard-working individual to join our collaborative, dynamic team where they will perform general molecular and cellular techniques, such as cell culture, DNA and RNA preparation, PCR, plasmid cloning, expression analysis, etc. The candidate is expected to work semi-independently on a research project and also participate in common laboratory duties (ordering supplies, maintaining stocks of common reagents, etc.). Excellent organizational and record keeping skills are necessary.

Job Duties

  • Conducts laboratory research experiments to reveal new mechanistic insights into RNA biology.
  • Orders, prepares, and maintains lab reagents/stocks, including buffers and media, to ensure an up-to-date lab inventory.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data in a high quality and detailed manner.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory safety.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly maintained in accordance with established procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with basic molecular/cellular biology techniques.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
