Job Description


The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in the Department of Medicine is searching for a fresh college graduate to be a part of Dr. Loning Fu's lab. The candidate will participate in research projects studying the mechanism of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and obesity-related liver cancer. The position is expected to provide both research experience and credit to prepare the candidate for the future studies. Highly motivated candidates with a clear long-term career goal in biomedical research or medicine are encouraged to apply. The position will be located at the Main Baylor Campus and is a full-time position.

Job Duties

  • Supports multiple ongoing translational research projects to define the mechanism of obesity-related liver cancer.
  • Research:
    • Animal behavior and phenotype studies, data organization and recording.
    • PCR genotyping for animal colonies maintenance.
    • Isolates tissue, blood and urine samples for studying obesity, fatty liver disease and liver cancer. 
    • Assists post-docs and graduate students in research using state-of-art techniques, such as: 
      • Protein and RNA studies.
      • Tumor and DNA isolation and genotyping.
      • Immunoassays. 
      • Plasmid construction and cell transformation.
  • Lab Management:
    •  Handles purchasing orders, equipment maintenance, and lab organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
