Job Description

Summary

A Research Technician II is open in the Molecular Virology and Microbiology Department, specifically the VTEU that handles Vaccine trials for both government and private industries. The candidate will be responsible for several different phases of these trials including transferring samples from human subjects from the clinic to the lab and organizing samples for proper processing using several different protocols from several different studies. The Applicant would also be responsible learning the different lab protocols that are used based on the study in addition to general lab maintenance and organization. Training will be available for each of the of the listed items.

Job Duties

  • Performs general lab maintenance including checking and recording temperatures daily for all the VTEU freezers and refrigerators.
  • Successfully processes samples from each study according to the study protocols. This may involve simple sample aliquots up to PBMC aliquots.
  • Completes all DMID training required for the study; Global Trace is a platform used for sample tracking for DMID studies from Emmes and all other sample trackers the sponsor of a study would like for us to use.
  • Enters the information from each aliquot that was obtained from the sample into the sample tracker system.
  • Quality checks work each day; resolves issues as needed. 
  • Laboratory organizing and ordering.
  • Conducts laboratory inventory when necessary.
  • Ships laboratory samples offsite, usually weekly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
