Job Description


Dr. Thomas Kosten is seeking a part-time hourly position that will develop an experimental plan and review data for a specific animal research project in his research lab. This position will be conducting various experiments with male drosophilia (fruit flies) in Dr. Kosten's lab to assess the effects of cocaine administration at 1mM on fly behavior in an established activity paradigm. 

Job Duties

  • Monitors and maintains fly stocks to have animals available at the right time and in the correct numbers needed to ensure seamless, undisrupted continuation of experimental procedures.
  • Designs treatment schedule.
  • Applies treatments as per protocol specifications with detailed notes that allows for replication.
  • Runs behavioral assays in parallel on 10 stations simultaneously.
  • Collects data and creates datasheets based on variables of interest; records data for analysis.
  • Performs interim data analysis at preset timepoint to ensure that protocol procedures remain aligned with protocol objectives.
  • Plans next set of experiments in discussion with the supervisor based on experiment results. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • One year of experience with male drosophilia (fruit flies)
