Job Description


The Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR) at Baylor College of Medicine is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Senior Research Assistant to assist with management of microbiome projects. The candidate must have excellent organizational skills to ensure effective management of projects by correctly planning, organizing, tracking, and delivering on all project aspects. Ability to multi-task and handle many moving parts are a must as the center is growing rapidly. The successful candidate will assist with project planning, data management, workflow design, and other tasks as needed, including data analysis and generation of status reports. Good communication skills are a must, with demonstrated independent thinking and problem-solving ability. Experience using databases is recommended. 

Job Duties

  • Conducts research projects under the general guidance of the PI but exhibits the ability to plan, conduct, and implement experiments and analyze their results. 
  • Works with project management team, bioinformatics team, PI and collaborators on coordinating the research grant and services center projects.
  • Supports funded collaborative grant and services center projects, including assistance with project scoping, data generation, analysis, and reporting. 
  • Documents, evaluates, analyzes, and monitors scientific and collaborative projects; generates status reports; assists in grant preparation and development; assists in grant application writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Interacts with a variety of collaborators routinely; high level of interpersonal communication skills is needed. 
  • Trains and orients less experienced research staff. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. 
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
