Job Description

Summary

The primary purpose of this Research Technician I position is to carry out various supervised animal research projects, maintain a mouse colony, and coordinate lab supply maintenance and ordering. The ideal candidate will have experience with mice. The lab studies retinal biology and the ideal candidate will have experience in this or related fields.

Job Duties

  • Performs mouse colony maintenance including genotyping and appropriate record keeping.
  • Applies molecular biology, histology, behavioral testing, and cell culture techniques to understand disease mechanisms.
  • Plans, directs, and conducts supervised research experiments.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigator and during lab meetings.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment, ordering, and the general lab environment.
  • Learns and becomes proficient with techniques related to retinal dissection, retinal histology, mouse vision testing, and retinal cell culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.
