Job Description

Summary

The Westbrook lab is seeking a talented laboratory animal technician to work in an interdisciplinary team environment on the development of new therapeutic strategies for cancer. As this project’s key focus is on therapeutic targeting of cancer, the position will involve skilled care, handling, and treatment of laboratory animals to model pre-clinical efficacy of novel therapeutic strategies. Candidates should be organized, goal-oriented, and able to learn new techniques quickly.

Job Duties

  • Performs laboratory animal work.
  • Creates orders and transports laboratory supplies and equipment as requested.
  • Confers with Principal Investigator (PI) and other lab members to participate in the execution of experiments.
  • Performs mouse husbandry under the supervision of other research staff.
  • Accurately documents procedures to ensure that work can be replicated by others.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and interprets research results and reports progress to PI. 
  • Prepares figures and assists in writing related to experiments performed.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and presents scientific data using MS Office suite. 
  • Genotyping, tumor measurement, animal surgery, intraperitoneal injection, oral gavage, tail vein injection, submandibular blood draw, retro-orbital injection and blood draw.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
