Postdoctoral Fellow – T-cell Leukemia (T-ALL), leukemic cell infiltration to the meninges, inflammation, and meningeal microenvironment
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Matlawska-Wasowska in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA (Dr. Matlawska is coming to UAB in January 2022) for a creative and highly motivated individual to work on a project associated with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) dissemination to the meninges. Ongoing research in the Matlawska’s laboratory focuses on the roles of inflammation and meningeal microenvironment on T-ALL colonization to the CNS/meninges. The lab utilizes several in vivo models of leukemia, patient derived xenografts, primary patient samples cell as well as various molecular biology approaches, genomics, metabolomics, biochemistry and high throughput screening.
This is an opportunity for a junior postdoctoral fellow with outstanding credentials in basic research of leukemia, immunology or cancer biology. The project will focus on discovering critical factors underlying T-ALL progression and infiltration of the CNS/meninges. This project will utilize multiparametric flow cytometry, distinct mouse models, human samples, imaging, RNAseq and scRNA sequencing.
The candidate must have expertise in immunology and leukemia biology, and must have experience in the generation and experimental use of mice (syngeneic, transgenic, PDX, humanized mice), multiparametric flow cytometry, cancer immunology and tissue culture models. Experience and/or interest in intravital imaging is desirable.
The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills; organizational and time management skills are also necessary. This position will enable the successful applicant to contribute to the development of high-impact research projects, to design and carry out experiments, to perform data analysis, to write manuscripts for publication and to write grant proposals. The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment, pay close attention to detail and scientific rigor.

Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in cancer biology or immunology or neuroscience or related discipline.
Up to 1 year of postdoctoral experience.
Must have first author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
