MCB faculty Dr. Stacy Lloyd whose research focuses prostate cancer disparities is looking to hire a staff scientist to assist in the development of a new research project that will explore the role of aberrant wound healing and biology of prostate cancer. This lab is new, therefore the staff scientist will be responsible for working directly with the PI to coordinate all logistical aspects of the research project. A successful candidate must have extensive working knowledge of cancer biology, with some background in health disparities.

Job Purpose

The position is reserved for career researchers and is intended to be utilized after completing at least three years of Postdoctoral research.

Job Duties

Dr. Lloyd is seeking a staff scientist for her newly funded DOD grant.

  • Coordinates sample pick up, processing, and storage.
  • Plans, directs, and conducts primary cell in vitro experiments.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals.
  • Prepares buffers and reagents for laboratory operations.
  • Prepares figures for publications, conferences and grants.
  • Maintains lab equipment and supplies inventory.
  • Documents results and prepare them for presentation.
  • Developes a working relationship with the dermatology clinic to coordinate sample pick up days and times, as well as working with the PI to develop a strategy for processing all samples for the needed experiments.
  • Candidate must have extensive experience in working with primary cell cells, and be able to adequately plan, direct, and conduct all required cell culture experiments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required to adequately convey results, next steps, and working with already established collaborations. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.


  • The person hired for this position should be able to work independently with little supervision.
