Job Description


A research technician position is available in the Chen laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. The laboratory has a general interest in understanding the origin of adipose tissue. Specifically, we use mouse genetic, flow cytometry, imaging, and RNA sequencing techniques to investigate the complex lineage trajectories of brown and white adipose tissue during development. We are looking for a highly motivated research technician to assist with mouse husbandry and handling and routine molecular and cell-based studies.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments, including cell culture maintenance, DNA and RNA isolation, western blotting, and PCR genotyping.
  • Handle and perform mouse husbandry, including breeding and weaning.
  • Document accurate results of experiments.
  • Assist with ordering and keeping an inventory of laboratory reagents and supplies.
  • Environmental waste management for the lab.
  • Perform routine laboratory of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
