Job Description


We are seeking a capable and experienced Bioninformatics Analyst II to join the Bioinformatics team within the CMMR working on large, diverse microbiome projects and metagenomic datasets. The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing data processing and analysis pipelines based on research demands. The project deliverables are on a strict timeline, so the ability to quickly implement and adapt code to new approaches and algorithms will be paramount.

Job Duties

  • Prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written.
  • Design, code, test, debug, document and maintain programs.
  • Design and develop research software.
  • Configure and customize third-party software.
  • Prepare all necessary program documentation.
  • Advise on hardware and software decisions.
  • Apply existing custom research software to both well-defined and complex problems.
  • May provide technical guidance and work direction to lower level information systems personnel.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. Degree in quantitative science (bioinformatics, molecular biology, physics, etc).
  • Broad knowledge of biology, especially microbial ecology and/or genetics.
  • Experience with large genomic data sets (Next-generation, metagenomic, genotyping, or expression data), data mining, and data analysis.
  • Experience in scientific programming with applications to biological research and developing biological analysis tools for processing and analysis of data.
  • Experience with Python, Bash and other languages as well as programming using UNIX/LINUX clusters are required.
  • Experience with Perl and/or R, NexGen data and ‘omics’ analyses are strongly desired.
