Job Description

Summary

The Jin and Mills lab at Baylor College of Medicine is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Research Technician III. Our labs are interested in the injury response of the upper gastrointestinal tract to chronic injury/inflammation, and the mechanisms by which these processes induce cancer development. This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a basic translational science research setting. Specifically, the research technician is responsible for basic molecular biology and cell culture tasks such as working with primary human cell lines, performing genotyping, GI tract routine histology staining, and mouse husbandry. There will be opportunities to contribute to a variety of different projects studying the molecular determinants of cancer development in the upper GI tract.

Job Duties

  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Performs the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Highly desired skills include experience with molecular biology and cell culture.
  • Should demonstrate ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and fast paced environment.
