Job Description

Summary

The Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a competent and reliable Research Technician II to undertake research projects in the field of reproductive and developmental biology. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and flexible. He/she can adapt to the lab environment and commit to finishing goals in a timely manner. This role will work under the general guidance of a principal investigator but will be anticipated to plan and implement experiments independently.

Job Duties

  • Oversees maintenance of mouse colony that includes cutting tail, setting up breeding pairs and wean pups. Extracts DNA from tail and perform genotype.
  • Euthanizes mice and extract tissues, maintains cell lines by performing tissue culture, and extracts DNA, RNA and protein from cell and tissue.
  • Performs Western blot and immunohistochemistry from cell and tissue.
  • Performs PCR from nucleic acid.
  • Prepares and conducts research experiments. Proper documentation of all experiments Administrate and manage research procedures.
  • Oversees lab equipment, lab supplies and lab space.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • Defines problems and possible solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
