Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team. Our lab (www.stpierrelab.com; Twitter: @StPierreLab) develops novel tools to accelerate biomedical research, including biosensors of neural activity, optogenetic silencers, high-throughput screening methods, and synthetic gene expression systems. We are looking for a dedicated and detailed-oriented Laboratory Technician to support these efforts. If desired, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn new skills in molecular biology/cloning and grow her/his career. Our laboratory is a friendly and enjoyable workplace that values diversity and inclusion.

Job Purpose

Performs routine elements of research work that require the use of skills and technical or academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Job Duties

  • Prepares solutions such as growth media for bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells.
  • Prepares or aliquot reagents needed for molecular cloning or tissue culture.
  • Maintains cultures of mammalian cells.
  • Assists with experiments such as transforming bacteria with DNA and making DNA preparations.
  • Maintains the lab in excellent working condition including ensuring sterility in our tissue culture room.
  • May assist in ordering laboratory supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to pipette is strongly recommended.
