Job DescriptionBasic Purpose
The purpose of this position is to develop large scale modeling, simulation, and analysis platforms in the areas of energy, military, transportation and supply chains.
The work involves gathering requirements, designing and implementing complex modeling, simulation, and data analysis software, preparing and delivering full-orbed training and user documentation for the analytical products. Incumbents will be required to maintain cutting-edge knowledge of advances in modeling, simulation, machine learning, and data analysis techniques and tools. Application of new and advanced techniques to very large problems will be key to the long-term success of the programs. Development will be on personal computers, high performance computer clusters, or cloud resources.
Research activities include, but are not limited to:
Development of large-scale modeling and simulation systems on a wide range of national security and energy domains.
Employment of these models on high performance computers and cloud-based infrastructures.
Design, development, and deployment of novel business intelligence and machine learning applications.
Management and employment of big data.
Publishing papers in high-quality refereed conferences and journals.
Actively collaborating with industry, academia, government labs, and applications developers in a variety of venues.
Research experience in ONE or more of the following areas:
complex systems modeling including simulation or analytical modeling;
high performance computing, parallel programming, or cloud computing
big data, data farms, business intelligence, machine learning, or pattern recognition.
Education and Experience Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The position requires a PhD degree in computer science, computational science or related discipline.
Responsibilities for this position include working closely with the project team to create, evaluate, and publish novel research ideas and collaborating with our partners and sponsors.
The ability to take initiative on research insights to bring them to fruition through publication or demonstration on mission applications.
Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong personal motivation.
The ability to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team.
Programming expertise in Java, C++, Python, or R. Experiences with large databases and data manipulation tools is preferred.
