Job Description


A position is available in the Wensel research group at the Baylor College of Medicine.  A successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and optimize general and scientific needs of the laboratory, including supervision of mouse colony management, and provide professional guidance and technical support to the investigators. Research conducted will involve various aspects of cell biology, mouse genetics and biochemistry. Advanced imaging techniques will be employed. Responsibilities will also include management of lab and shared equipment items.

Job Duties

• Plans and organizes administrative operations of the laboratory.
• Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory staff and insures compliance.
• Coordinates procurement of equipment and supplies and manages all stages of the acquisition cycle.
• Establishes procedures for management of the use of laboratory equipment including maintenance, repair, and inventories.
• Performs personnel management functions and supervises technical support staff.
• Assists with and supervises management of a mouse colony.
• Performs cell culture experiments and time-lapsed imaging.
• Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
• Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mouse handling, colony management, and genetic screening approaches.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, quantitative PCR, DNA extraction from tissues, working with RNA).
