Job Description

Summary

The Systems Onco-Immunology Lab (SOIL - https://www.bcm.edu/departments/surgery/surgical-research/systems-onco-immunology-lab) in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant I to undertake research projects in the field of tumor immunology and immunotherapy. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and flexible. He/she can adapt to the lab environment and commit to finishing goals in a timely manner. This role will work under the general guidance of a principal investigator but will be anticipated to plan and implement experiments independently.

Job Duties

  • Extracting DNA/RNA from tumor and blood samples.
  • Collecting human and mice tissues with single cell preparations.
  • Using and arranging core labs for DNA and RNA sequencing.
  • Management of sequencing data.
  • Managing the safety in the lab.
  • Modifying and upgrading the experiments planned.
  • Ordering lab items.
  • Checking all equipment in the lab regularly.  
  • Managing cryotanks and refrigerators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
