Summary

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a scientific programmer to support the Automation and Robotics group. This position offers tremendous opportunities for professional growth.

The HGSC was founded in 1996 and is a world leader in genomics. The fundamental interests of the HGSC are in advancing biology and genetics by improved genome technologies. As one of the three large-scale sequencing centers funded by the National Institutes of Health, the HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work on the cutting edge of genomic science in a state of the art institution.

Job Purpose

Scientific Programmer I under limited supervision, formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems.

Job Duties

  • Performs basic laboratory work in molecular biology, including DNA library construction and qPCR.
  • Performs routine laboratory procedures to assist in the research lab's production.
  • Optimizes and debugging robot liquid handling methods.
  • Executes operational and performance qualifications on robot installations.
  • Calibrates and validates robot pipettes.
  • Troubleshoots application protocols and instrumentation.
  • Tests new robot software upgrades and features.
  • Collects, compilies, and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Available to share evening and weekend support as needed.
  • Provides enthusiastic customer support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
