Job Description

Summary

The candidate will support all aspects of the research in the Laboratory for Regenerative Tissue Repair that focus on studying mechanisms of regeneartive tissue repair and fibrosis in multiple organ systems including skin, kidney, heart and lung. The key roles of the successful candidate will be to help in murine surgical models, and undertake immunohistological staining and genomic and proteomic studies of wound tissue biopsies. In addition, the candidate will support studies related to primary patient-derived cell isolation and the application of mechanical forces to fibroblasts and keratinocytes in culture.

Job Purpose

Performs the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Job Duties

  • The candidate will work closely with the senior reserach technicians and fellows in the lab, and be responsible for general lab maintenance and maintenance of mice colony and documentation of the surgical procedures.
  • The candidate will participate in RNA and protein isolation from tissue specimens.
  • In addition, the candidate will isolate, culture and expand skin and kidney cells.
  • Using state of the art facilities and equipment in flow cytometry, histological staiing and immunohistochemical staining will be part of these studies.
  • Real time functional imaging and imaging mass cytometry will be used to characterize the tissue repair responses.
  • The candidate will assemble and use flex cell apparatus, bioreactors and other surgical equipment for the application of mechanical forces to cells and wounds.
  • The candidate is expected to have prior working knowledge with these assays and applications.
  • The candidate will evaluate and assess genomic and proteomic data from the tissue biopsies.
  • Prior experience working with large datasets, including preparing PCA plots, volcano plots and pathway analysis is desirable.
  • This position is solely based in the lab and will be a full time research position.
  • Ocassionally, this person will interact with patient families for conseting patienst to a study.
  • This person will be responsible for data collection, analysis and presentation in the form of figures for manuscripts and abstracts and talks at local, regional and national meetings.
  • This candidate will support grant submissions as well and will support the preparation and submission of scientific and review articles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Cell Biology or related field in the life sciences or Pre-med curriculum, with relevant technical experience either as a student helper or intern in a wet lab.
  • The candidate will work in a lab environment that consists of multi groups working in a shared space.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across cross-functional teams is important.
  • Being detailed oriented, with a knack for time and resource management is critical for the success of this position.
