Job Description


The Center for Comparative Medicine provides for the care, health, and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals. This position oversees the daily operations of an animal research facility.

Job Duties

  • Ensures adherence to standard operating procedures and industry standards.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations. Interacts and coordinates with veterinary staff to assure the health and welfare of animals. Inspects facility and cleaning practices regularly.
  • Provides reports on facility function, personal issues, inventory, data collection, and room/animal logs and records.
  • Ensures an adequate inventory of feed, bedding, and supplies is available to support facility operations.
  • Supervises animal care staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.    
  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). Certification must be obtained within one year of hire or promotion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • No experience required with Bachelor’s degree.
