Job Description

Summary

The Section of Epidemiology and Population Sciences in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant who will work independently under minimal supervision from the PI on environmental epidemiology research. Responsibilities include working on field activities such as data abstraction from electronic medical records of consented study participants and following the chain of custody on protocols in transporting biological samples. The candidate will construct neighborhood-level metrics of social determinants of health and environmental health indicators, conducting statistical analyses and draft reports.

Job Duties

  • Compiles EMR and questionnaire data.
  • Generates maps of spatially-resolved data using geographic information systems (GIS) software.
  • Constructs neighborhood-level metrics of social determinants of health using principal components analyses and other statistical techniques.
  • Performs specific GIS analysis tasks and compile spatially processed data into formats that are usable for further statistical analyses.
  • Conducts statistical analyses of epidemiologic data (e.g., mixed-effects logistic regression analyses)
  • Leads literature reviews and prepares written summaries of relevant literature.
  • Drafts and edits manuscripts.
  • Provides epidemiological and statistical analysis expertise for other projects in the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Evidence of scientific writing is a plus.
