Job Description

Summary

The Burrage Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill an open position as a Research Technician II.  This position will support the laboratory's ongoing translational studies of the genetic and biochemical basis for rare diseases with a particular focus on inborn errors of metabolism using mouse models and in vitro cell studies.  This position is suitable for candidates who are interested in a wide variety of career pathways, including graduate school or medical school, and individualized professional development will be supported.

 

The candidate must be willing to handle and work with mouse models.

Job Duties

  • Performs mouse husbandry (such as mouse breeding, weaning, weighing, etc.).
  • PCR genotyping of mice and mouse tissue harvesting for histology, immunostaining, and biochemical studies.
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments using tissue culture or other laboratory techniques (such as western blots, PCR, qPCR, biochemical studies, etc.).
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data and accurately reports and documents results of experiments.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with collaborators and other members of the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in biology, biochemistry, nutrition, or related field.
  • Prior experience in basic molecular biology techniques and handling of mouse models is helpful but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be motivated, organized, and team-oriented.
