Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL), to support a research project focused on the design and study of computer-supported roleplaying systems addressing social issues (the effort is related to an area sometimes known as “serious games” or “impact games”). Issues related to identity such as nationality, race, gender, orientation, etc., are of particular interest. Will collaborate with a software engineer on the development of a version of a platform called Chimeria into a plug-in or API compatible with game development platforms such as Unity (prior development has been primarily in JavaScript).

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in computer science, HCI, software engineering, information science, or related field (those in fields like sociology, cognitive sciences, communication, game design and development, etc., may be considered if previous research is relevant to the project); desire to work in a dynamic, culturally-diverse environment; excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate collaboratively at the highest technical levels; strong project management, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills; meticulous attention to detail; and discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues. PREFERRED: knowledge of game design and roleplaying; knowledge of and experience with Southeast Asian communities (e.g., Malaysia, Singapore, etc.); cross-cultural research and analysis experience; proficiency with Unity and multiple contemporary computer programming languages (e.g., C#, C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.); solid understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and language constructs; proficiency with HTML, CSS, HTTP/HTTPS, web scraping, and SQL; proficiency with real-time, embedded applications; professional experience with the full software development cycle; and knowledge of modern software development practices (continuous integration, style guides, code reviews, unit testing) and tools (e.g., Git, Travis, Sentry, UptimeRobot).
