About the Position.
A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Miriam Braunstein in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who intends to develop an independent research program on bacterial pathogens. Research in the Braunstein Laboratory is focused on understanding the basic pathogenic mechanisms used by Mycobacterium tuberculosis to survive and grow during infection and to identify new therapeutic strategies to treat tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease. Ongoing projects include studies of the secretion systems and secreted proteins of pathogenic mycobacteria and their roles in pathogenesis. Additional projects include evaluation of novel drug candidates and bacteriophage therapy for treating mycobacterial infections. Required Skills.
The successful candidate should have a PhD degree along with a strong publication record, excellent communication skills, and a track record of working as part of a team. Prior training in genetics and microbiology is required. Experience with animal models of infection is desired.
