Job Description

The Theory Group in the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory is now seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in nuclear theory that would begin in Fall 2021. The focus for this position is lattice QCD and calculations of hadron structure, as such, experience with hands-on lattice QCD computations is highly desirable. Nevertheless, other areas of nuclear physics may also be considered. 

The position is for two years, with the possibility of one additional year contingent upon funding and performance. Applications received on or before 12 February 2021 will receive full consideration. 

The Theory Group currently has four staff members [Ian Cloët, Alessandro Lovato, Robert Wiringa, and Yong Zhao], as well as several postdocs and students. The Group has a broad-ranging research program in QCD/hadron physics and nuclear structure/reactions. The Group also has a developing program in quantum information science and AI, and is part of an Argonne Strategic LDRD for the Electron-Ion Collider. The Group has access to extensive Laboratory and National computational resources.

Postdoctoral appointee in the Theory Group of the Physics Division. Must have a PhD. in Physics (or related field) and ideally have related research experience. The focus for this position is lattice QCD and calculations of hadron structure, as such, experience with hands-on lattice QCD computations is highly desirable. Familiarity with other areas of nuclear physics is important.

Applicants must have a PhD in theoretical physics completed prior to the start date of the postdoctoral position.
