BMT-CI Performance Improvement Specialist

Job Summary:


In conjunction with the Manager - BMT CI Informatics, Quality and Data, the Specialist ensures coordination of all quality and performance improvement activities which include but not limited to relevant training, Apheresis, CAR-T, and department reporting and documentation requirements. Facilitates requests for QA data from payers and Centers of Excellence. Coordinates and collects data, performs analysis and trending of internal and external quality and accreditation indicators (internal and external), process measures and outcome measures. This position interacts closely with the Cell Therapy Laboratory to assure compliance with the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) standards of apheresis and CAR-T, and other quality measures identified by Department leadership.


This position participates in and facilitates staff and physicians on regulatory/accrediting requirements to promote readiness and ongoing compliance. The Performance Improvement Specialist is expected to develop and maintain professional affiliations to keep abreast of the regulatory and must be expert on the FACT accreditation requirements for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Clinical Programs, Apheresis, and new standards related to Immune Effector Cells.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Skilled in communicating effectively, facilitating group processes and training staff.
  • Experienced in preparing policy analyses, interpreting statistics, developing comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Advanced experience utilizing clinical databases and health record systems.
  • Must be comfortable training team members on program standards and developing program documentation for organization-wide viewing.



  • Serves as a resource and consultant for apheresis and CAR-T quality activities to all members of the BMT CI Program and Institution.
  • Collaborates with hospital quality and risk management departments, and reports patient safety and quality issues on a regular basis. Attends ad hoc meetings with risk management manager and/or risk management director, if needed.
  • Participates in the development of new protocols, including program specific protocols, specifically focusing on apheresis and CAR-T quality and data management requirements. Coordinates, with BMT CI Research the need for apheresis data collection and timely reporting of severe adverse events, for protocol changes and deviations.
  • Participate contemporaneously in deviation and adverse event documentation and assessment and play a lead role in subsequent root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Collaborates on the design of the information technology infrastructure required to support apheresis, CAR-T, and CIBMTR performance and quality improvement system.
  • Performs periodic audits and reporting regarding quality activities, and compiles and prepares the Program's Annual Report in conjunction with quality personnel from key support services, as directed by the BMT CI Department Manager and Department needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, MIS, or MBA preferred.
  • Experience working with clinical databases or data sets, both for reporting and for organizing information in a useful manner and be competent in the use of institutional clinical information and health record systems.
  • Experienced in preparing policy analyses, interpreting statistics, developing comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Advanced communication, writing, and proofing skills.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in producing accurate and high-quality deliverables.
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and multi-task under tight deadline with little oversight.
