Job Description

Summary

The NIH-funded laboratory of Dr. Hsiao-Tuan Chao at the Neurological Research Institute, affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, is recruiting a research technician to join a highly collaborative team engaged in neuroscience, genetics, and human disease research. Our laboratory focuses on understanding neural circuit development and function, and how dysregulation of these processes contributes to brain disorders such as intellectual disability, epilepsy, and autism. We are looking for a motivated research technician to assist with fruit fly and/or mouse husbandry, neurohistology, molecular biology, and behavioral studies. Responsibilities of this position are split between the laboratory and the vivarium. 

Job Duties
  • Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data
  • Fruit fly colony maintenance
  • Mouse colony maintenance and genotyping
  • Perform routine technical laboratory and specialized procedures
  • Neurohistology, protein assays, DNA studies, and imaging
  • Behavioral studies (rodent and fruit fly assays)
  • Data entry, document experimental results, record keeping
  • Clean equipment and work area, operates laboratory equipment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be able to follow established procedures and properly record results

  • Prior laboratory experience handling mice or fruit flies
  • At least one year of work experience in a basic science laboratory
