Job Description

The incumbent will conduct energy, environmental, economic, and financial analyses of power grid planning and operations, and the interaction with other energy infrastructures.  Such analyses may involve running commercial software, developing original analytical tools, or analyzing large data sets as needed. The incumbent will conduct research related to a wide range of topic areas including the analysis of energy and power systems, optimization of renewable energy integration, electricity market design and operation, integration of other emerging technologies, and interdependencies between power grid, transportation, and water systems. This position may require domestic and international travel. 

Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection:  All activities, as they apply to work performed by self or by personnel under supervision, will be executed in compliance with ES&H and security responsibilities established by Argonne National Laboratory’s ES&H policies, Safeguards and Security policies, work rules, and safe practices.

  • This position requires a PhD degree in Engineering, Science, Economics, Public Policy or a related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data analytics, power systems economics, electricity market design, issues surrounding the integration of variable renewables, and environmental issues.
  • Skills in developing and/or applying innovative methodologies, and tools to model and simulate energy and power systems or their components.
  • Knowledge and experience with analyzing large data sets and developing and using statistical tools, e.g. Python, R.
  • Skills in working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of basic financial and economic principles.
  • Experience in academic writing and publication.
