Job Description

Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a Lab Assistant who shall work with and assist the Building Engineering and Maintenance Technology Instructor and students.



Position Description

Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific tasks in the Building Engineering and Maintenance Technology
Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by the Building Engineering and Maintenance Technology
Ensure safety practices are followed by students
Follow required pollution prevention procedures in the handling of chemicals and waste products
Maintain records of repair orders for proper accountability of parts and materials
Maintain control of college owned specialty tools and equipment for use by students
Enforce all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC
Responsible for the transportation of students during field trips, and off campus activities per the College’s policies and guidelines
Ability to assist in teaching proper and correct techniques in Building Engineering and Maintenance Technology
Must have the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities
Must understand the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college
Performing other duties/instruction, as assigned by the respective instructor(s) and administrators


Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

High school diploma or GED equivalent
Minimum of two (2) years related work experience in the industry
Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

Three – Five (3–5) years-experience in Construction or Building Engineering and Maintenance Technology field
Certificate or Associates degree in Construction, Building Engineering, Maintenance or other closely related field
Competent in construction mathematics
Current OSHA 30 Certification required or must complete certification within 90 days of employment
Current EPA 608 Certification required or must complete certification within 90 days of employment
Basic knowledge of framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, concrete/masonry, HVACR, painting, windows, doors, stair building, Landscape and Hardscape
Experience running a front-loader, scissor lift and forklift
Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
