The IT Services Administrator serves as the System Administrator for the Division of Student Affairs Student Services departments and the Indiana Memorial Union. This position works on all phases of system administration to ensure the successful delivery of various enterprise and department applications and services. Many of these systems require continuous operation/high availability during business hours and requisite support. This position implements and maintains multiple layers of security controls to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of electronic protected FERPA and attorney-client privileged data.
Responsible for all areas of IT Support for the Division of Student Affairs and Indiana Memorial Union, including hardware, client and server operating systems, information security, data backup and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, storage allocation, workload management, and problem determination and resolution. Contributes to the growth and modification of the enterprise and department by acquiring and maintaining knowledge of new and emerging applications, tools, and architectures that may be used to support business operations.
Responsible for ensuring system compliance with all University IT policies and serves as the main point of contact for IU Policy and Security issues.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field, and three years of work experience in systems administration and desktop support or five years of progressive work history in a comparable role and at least one of the preferred certifications.
Experience with the configuration and management of Microsoft Windows client operating systems (such as Windows 10), Microsoft Windows Server, Linux (Ubuntu Server), relational database management systems (Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL), web servers (Microsoft IIS and Apache HTTP Server), and firewalls. Knowledge of software configuration management, TCP/IP networks, VPNs, and data backup and recovery. Demonstrable experience with one scripting language (such as bash, PowerShell, Python), version control systems (such as Git), Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Active Directory Group Policy, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Windows Software Update Services (WSUS). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide diversity of individuals. Ability to work with a diverse group of employees with varying degrees of technical knowledge. Customer service attitude and willingness to work as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment. Problem solving skills with high levels of accuracy. High levels of dependability and responsibility.
Relevant Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), or Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) certifications. CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+ certifications.
Working Conditions / Demands
Position requires considerable mental concentration, attention to detail, attendance and excellent organizational skills to balance competing demands and priorities in a fast-moving, collegial environment.
Remaining stationary (particularly for long periods of time), keyboarding and/or staring at a computer screen (particularly for long periods of time), and lifting up to 40 pounds.
